At the end of the Middle Ages, Sauveterre was the capital of Rouerguate cutlery: in 1425, the town had about thirty blacksmiths.
Unfortunately, in the 16th century, there was a big decline in cutlery in Sauveterre due to the wars of religion, plague epidemics, and the decline of the forests in the area…..
In 1998, following the broadcast of a television series (La clé des Champs) evoking the life of a Parisian woman returning to her childhood village, Sauveterre de Rouergue, to take over her father’s cutlery, a Sauveterre knife was created especially for the film.
Faced with the success of this Sauveterre folding knife, Guy Vialis opened a cutlery shop in 1998 where this famous knife was made. Following his death, the cutlery was bought by Christian Valat, owner of Laguiole in Aubrac in 2018.
The Sauveterre folding knife takes the shape of the straight Laguiole, it is thin, elegant, refined and has a very efficient blade for use during meals.
The Sauveterre folding knife is available in different formats, table or pocket.
We notice the very good quality of assembly with a smooth spring perfectly grazing between the plates, which gives it a possible 3D customization on the spring.
The fly is forged and in the shape of a sage leaf (emblem of the village of Sauveterre de Rouergue).
The cutlers of Sauveterre also produce other regional knives, such as Camembert, which is only produced in Sauveterre!!
