Maintenance tips for your Laguiole knife
Your Laguiole knife is guaranteed against all manufacturing defects during normal use of the knife and in compliance with the maintenance instructions below.
Above all, remember
1/ No dishwasher for your Laguiole or other table or service accessories
2/ Never immerse your Laguiole knife in water or even pass it under water
3/ Never let your Laguiole dry on its own, but wipe it well before folding and storing it.
4/ Be sure to keep your Laguiole in a dry place.
Maintenance of the blades of your Laguiole
Sandvik blades (12c27) in high-end stainless steel, easily sharpened either by yourself or by a professional.
Clean the blade with a damp sponge or cloth and wipe it properly immediately.
The Carbon XC75 blade, a traditional blade that turns gray with use, natural oxidation. However, it requires ongoing maintenance because the blade can rust in the event of poor maintenance.
Clean the blade with a damp sponge and wipe immediately, during a meal, between each dish, wipe the blade on bread crumbs which will reduce a possible taste of steel.
The Damascus stainless steel blade does not require any particular maintenance, like a classic stainless steel blade, cleaning with a damp cloth or sponge and good regular wiping will be perfect.
Maintenance of the handles of your Laguiole

Natural materials requiring minimal maintenance. However, remember that you should not wet the handle of your knife, nor run it under the tap, nor soak it at the risk of seeing your knife swell and split.
French or exotic wooden handles
Even if the wood is more resistant to humidity, it is strongly advised to avoid getting it wet, however if the handle of your Laguiole is dirty, clean it with a damp cloth then dry it directly.
If the wood becomes dry or/and tarnished, rub a soft cloth with olive oil on the handle to nourish the wood and bring a shiny patina.
Aluminum, stainless steel and acrylic handles
These materials are resistant to being wet, so you can clean your handle with a damp sponge and wipe it well.
Always wipe your Laguiole knife thoroughly after each use.
Maintenance of the Bolsters of your Laguiole
Stainless steel bolsters
No maintenance because they are stainless and do not move over time.
Brass oxidizes or acquires a slight patina over time. To restore its shine, use Mirror for Brass and a soft cloth and rub.
