Laguiole table knives in royal oak

Handcrafted French

Designed for demanding tables, these Laguiole table knives in Aubracl fully embody the values of French craftsmanship. They combine exceptional old wood with precise and mastered cutlery know-how. At each stage, the craftsman intervenes. Thus, each knife is assembled, shaped and embellished by hand, as part of an artisanal French manufacture.

Royal oak: an old wood that sublimates over time

Coming from our French forests, the royal oak is distinguished by its rarity and character. Its slow growth, spread over several decades, sometimes over several centuries, has shaped dense and stable matter. As a result, the wood has clearly visible strata, marked by the passage of time.

Thanks to this natural maturation, the veining appears deep, structured and particularly expressive. Each round then becomes unique, carrying its own relief and history.

Over time, this singularity becomes more pronounced. When properly cared for, royal oak develops a natural patina. Gradually, the hue intensifies. The touch softens. The appearance gains in nobility. As a result, the handle becomes more and more beautiful over the years, strengthening the link between the object and its use.

A solid handle, without a bolster, shaped by the hand of the craftsman

In order to fully enhance the old wood, the cutlers have opted for a full handle, without a bolster. This technical choice ensures an elegant visual continuity and highlights the material, without artifice.

In a second step, the back of the neck is entirely guilloché by hand. This work requires patience, regularity and precision. Every gesture is well thought out. Each pattern is carefully traced. This means that no guilloché is repeated, and each knife asserts its own character.

Exceptional guilloché and careful fly work

As an extension of the handle, the stylized forged fly is the subject of meticulous craftsmanship. It is shaped and then guilloché by hand, before being adjusted with precision. This detail plays an essential role: it signs the knife and reveals the mastery of the craftsman.

In addition, decorative work is done on the top of the blade, from its departure to the fly. This finish ensures a harmonious visual continuity between wood and steel, reinforcing the elegance of the whole.

On the left side, the shepherd’s cross is a reminder of the historical and territorial anchoring of Laguiole knives in the heart of Aubrac.

A satin stainless steel blade, sober and elegant

To enhance the whole, the blade has a satin stainless steel finish. This treatment limits reflections and enhances the lines of the knife. In addition, this finish creates a balanced contrast that brings out the depth of the old wood, without ever overpowering it.

A smooth and natural grip

From the first use, the balance of the knife is felt. The density of the royal oak, combined with the curve of the neck, offers a remarkable grip. The gesture becomes fluid. Comfort sets in immediately. With use, the feel remains constant and long-lasting.

The know-how of Laïol cutlers

These knives are mounted in Laguiole in Aubrac, in accordance with traditions. On site, the cutlers do not just assemble. They shape, adjust and embellish each piece by hand.

Through this precise and demanding work, they perpetuate an authentic French craftsmanship, far from standardized productions. This artisanal French manufacture guarantees each knife character, longevity and uniqueness.

Care instructions

Even if royal oak is an old and naturally resistant wood, proper maintenance remains essential to preserve its patina:

  • ❌ Do not use a dishwasher

  • ❌ Avoid prolonged immersion

  • ✅ Cleaning the blade by hand

  • ✅ Wipe thoroughly after use

  • ✅ Dry immediately with a soft cloth

Thanks to these simple gestures, the wood continues to develop a patina and the satin stainless steel finish retains its shine.

The Laguiole spirit at the table

More than just a knife, this Laguiole model stands the test of time.
Over the years, it evolves.
With each use, it gains in character.
Through its old wood and manual processing, it becomes an object of transmission.

It thus embodies a sustainable and demanding vision of cutlery, based on French craftsmanship and sincere French manufacturing .
