At the end of the Middle Ages, Sauveterre was the capital of Rouerguate cutlery: in 1425, the town had around thirty blacksmiths.
Unfortunately, in the 16th century, there was a big decline in cutlery in Sauveterre due to religious wars, plague epidemics, loss of forests in the area…..
In 1998, following the broadcast of a television series (La clef des Champs) evoking the life of a Parisian returning to her childhood village, Sauveterre de Rouergue, to take over her father’s cutlery business, a Sauveterre knife was created especially for the film.
Faced with the success of this Sauveterre folding knife, Guy Vialis opened a cutlery factory in 1998 where this famous knife would be manufactured. Following his death, the cutlery was bought by Christian Valat, owner of Laguiole en Aubrac in 2018.
The Sauveterre folding knife takes the shape of the straight laguiole, it is thin, elegant, refined and equipped with a very effective blade for use during meals.
The Sauveterre folding knife exists in different formats, table or pocket.
We notice the very good quality of assembly with a smooth spring perfectly flush between the plates, which gives it possible 3D customization on the spring.
The fly is forged and shaped like a sage leaf (emblem of the village of Sauveterre de Rouergue).
The cutlers of Sauveterre also produce other regional knives, such as Camembert, which is only produced in Sauveterre!!
